Just Saying No To Record Labels

Wired Magazine has a news story featuring Rock veterans Peter Gabriel and Brian Eno who are launching a provocative new musicians’ alliance that would cut against the industry grain by letting artists sell their music online instead of only through record labels.

This is just another evolutionary step of the net’s decentralizing power. Personally, I think the genie is out of the bottle, and any amount of control and censorship is ultimately doomed. I used to stay up at night worrying about draconian DRM, Windows Longhorn, government mandated restrictions and so on. But lately I’m coming to realize the power of the net is a lot more powerful than I thought, and its decentralizing, democratizing power is just getting unleashed. My feeling is we ain’t seen nothing yet.
